Why scientists can’t get a laugh

A survey of over 500 science conference presentations found that two-thirds of humor attempts received only polite chuckles or silence, with just 9% getting most of the room to laugh. Technical malfunctions like slide glitches drew the biggest laughs. About 40% of presenters avoided humor entirely, though research suggests this makes talks less memorable and harder to stay engaged with.
