Waymo relies on firefighters and police to bail out stuck robotaxis

Waymo has repeatedly relied on taxpayer-funded first responders, including firefighters and police, to physically move its stuck robotaxis during emergency situations when its own remote assistance team could not resolve the issues. TechCrunch identified at least six such incidents, including one where an officer was responding to a mass shooting. The company has also faced criticism for using remote assistance employees based in the Philippines to help navigate its autonomous vehicles.
