K2 to launch its first high-powered satellite for space compute

K2, founded by former SpaceX engineers, is preparing to launch Gravitas, a two-metric-ton satellite capable of generating 20 kW of power, aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The mission aims to demonstrate high-power satellite technology needed for orbital data centers, carrying 12 payload modules including a 20 kW electric thruster. Valued at $3 billion with $425 million raised, K2 plans to launch eleven more satellites over the next two years toward building commercial high-powered space vehicle networks by 2028.
