Bedrock for AI Coding Tools: Mantle vs Gateway vs LiteLLM — A Decision Guide for AWS Credit Burners

This guide compares three approaches to connecting AI coding tools (OpenCode, Codex CLI, Claude Code) with Amazon Bedrock using AWS credits: Mantle (zero-infra, open-weight models only), bedrock-access-gateway (self-hosted proxy supporting all models including Claude), and LiteLLM (the only path for Claude Code). Mantle supports 38 open-weight models via OpenAI-compatible API but excludes Claude and Nova, while bedrock-access-gateway provides full model access at the cost of maintaining infrastructure. Codex CLI is currently broken with all three due to a tool translation bug in LiteLLM.
