Rust Rewrites X11: A Modern Display Server for Linux Systems

Yserver demonstrates that the 40-year-old X11 display server can be modernized without abandoning backward compatibility. Built from scratch in Rust and leveraging modern Linux graphics stacks (DRM/KMS), it successfully runs real desktop environments like MATE and XFCE while dropping decades of legacy cruft. This project could provide a practical alternative to both legacy Xorg and newer display servers like Wayland for systems requiring X11 support.
