Why craft-lovers are losing their craft

The article examines how LLM coding assistants revealed a pre-existing but invisible split between developers: those who find meaning in the craft of coding itself and those focused on outcomes. Drawing on Marx's concept of alienated labor, it argues that craft-lovers experience genuine loss because the meaningful act of building has been disrupted, while outcome-focused developers feel little change.
