Russell Mulcahy's 1986 fantasy action film Highlander, starring Christopher Lambert as an immortal Scotsman battling others like him, celebrates its 40th anniversary. The screenplay originated as a UCLA class project by Gregory Widen, inspired by Ridley Scott's The Duelists and visits to Scotland. The film spawned sequels and TV series, but the original remains the definitive version.
