Traditional LeetCode-style technical interviews correlate with job performance no better than a coin flip for most engineering roles, as they measure only algorithm problem-solving rather than the system understanding, ambiguity handling, and collaboration skills that define real engineering work. Work sample tests, take-home assignments, and properly structured system design interviews offer significantly better predictive validity for identifying engineers who will excel in their actual roles.
