Switzerland Built an Alternative to BGP

Switzerland's ETH Zürich developed SCION, a next-generation internet routing architecture designed to replace BGP's fundamentally insecure foundation rather than patch it. Led by Adrian Perrig since 2009, SCION has been proven in banking and healthcare but has yet to gain widespread global adoption. BGP's lack of native address verification continues to enable route hijacks and interceptions, problems that bolt-on fixes like RPKI and BGPsec only partially mitigate.
