Study pinpoints when bow and arrow came to North America

A new study published in PNAS Nexus found that North Americans adopted the bow and arrow about 1,400 years ago, replacing the atlatl and dart almost immediately in southern regions while northern populations gradually transitioned over a thousand years. The research comes from Metin Eren's Experimental Archaeology Laboratory at Kent State University, known for reverse-engineering ancient technologies including stone tools, ceramics, and ballistics experiments.
