Shopify's Agentic Storefronts auto-generate UCP manifests that appear valid on the surface but lack critical configurations—signing keys, payment handlers, and return policy schemas—that AI agents require for verification, discovery, and transactions. An audit of 28 e-commerce domains found that every single store with a UCP manifest failed multiple validation checks, effectively making their stores unfindable to AI shopping agents despite enabling the feature. As AI-driven commerce accelerates, these hidden configuration gaps could cost merchants significant revenue by blocking a new sales channel.
