IP-based fingerprinting appears to be a straightforward solution for preventing double voting in web polls, but it fundamentally fails to account for modern network realities. Legitimate voters behind shared IP addresses (university networks, corporate firewalls) are blocked while VPN users can easily circumvent the restrictions. This exposes a critical gap: technical solutions alone cannot enforce democratic principles in digital environments.
