No accountability: Bills would ban liability lawsuits for climate change

Republican lawmakers across multiple US states and Congress are pushing bills to shield fossil fuel companies from climate-related liability lawsuits, even as dozens of communities and states sue oil and gas companies over rising climate costs and alleged consumer deception. The US Supreme Court will hear a key case brought by Boulder, Colorado against Suncor and ExxonMobil that could broadly block such lawsuits, while Congressional Republicans are also drafting legislation to grant the fossil fuel industry legal immunity similar to protections given to gun manufacturers in 2005.
