Musketeer d'Artagnan's remains believed found under Dutch church

Why it matters
Remains found beneath the floor of St Peter and Paul Church in Maastricht are believed to belong to Charles de Batz de Castelmore, known as d'Artagnan, who was killed during the 1673 Siege of Maastricht. Evidence includes a musket ball and a 1660 coin found in the grave, though DNA analysis is underway in Germany to confirm the identity. D'Artagnan served as a close aide to Louis XIV and was later immortalised in Alexandre Dumas's adventure novels.
