Linux 7.1 to Retire UDP-Lite – Allows for Better Performance with Cleansed Code

The Linux 7.1 kernel will retire UDP-Lite support, a protocol for partial checksums present since Linux 2.6.20, due to years of disuse and persistent bugs. Removing UDP-Lite conditionals from the fast path yields a 3–10% increase in UDP packets per second, and no complaints have been received since the 2023 deprecation notice.
