When AI Agents Build Societies: Unexpected Emergence of Conflict, Alliances, and Peace

This experiment reveals how hybrid AI agents spontaneously generate complex social dynamics—wars, alliances, betrayals, and reconciliation—without explicit social programming. By persisting agent memories across lifetimes, the simulation demonstrates that AI systems can develop lasting relationships, hold grudges, and negotiate peace. Built entirely with Claude Code, the project showcases the technical innovations needed for affordable, expressive multi-agent systems and the surprising depth of emergent behavior.
