From Paid APIs to DIY: Building a Self-Hosted Web Search Stack

Managing multiple paid web search APIs in personal infrastructure creates mounting costs and unnecessary vendor lock-in. This project demonstrates how developers can leverage open-source tools and MCP to build a fully self-hosted search solution with graceful fallback mechanisms. The architecture proves that production-ready systems no longer require external API dependencies when combined with local LLM inference.
