DoorDash introduces relief payments for drivers as the Iran-US war drives up gas prices

DoorDash is launching a temporary relief program through April 26 to help its delivery drivers cope with surging gas prices driven by the Iran-U.S. war, offering weekly payments starting at $5 for drivers covering at least 125 miles and an extra 10% cash back on gas via its Crimson debit card. The national average gas price has risen to nearly $3.96 per gallon—over $1 more than a month ago—placing severe financial strain on gig workers who must cover their own fuel, maintenance, and insurance costs. The program echoes a similar initiative DoorDash rolled out in 2022 during the gas price spike following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
