The author investigated whether excessive em dash usage is universal across AI models by testing 27 models on Amazon Bedrock with identical conversational prompts. Results showed wildly inconsistent behavior: Writer's Palmyra X5 used the most em dashes (2.17 per 100 words), Claude and Nova models clustered around 1.0–1.3, while the Llama family used none at all.
