This experiment demonstrates that CLI-based tool wrappers can reduce token overhead by 96-99% compared to native MCP integration by eliminating schema definitions. For AI agents operating under token constraints, the finding suggests a fundamental rethink of how external tools should be exposed—through familiar command-line interfaces that LLMs already understand, rather than structured protocol definitions.
