Current predictive visualizations fail to adequately represent uncertainty and multiple possible futures, often misleading audiences by flattening complexity into single trajectories. This article advocates for three structural patterns—layered uncertainty, branching timelines, and scenario surfaces—that enable visualizations to explore 'what could be' rather than simply project what will be. These methodologies are transformative for fields dealing with high uncertainty, from climate modeling and pandemic forecasting to natural disaster prediction, fundamentally improving public understanding and enabling better decision-making.
